Juan Diego Flórez, a native of Lima, Peru, has been named an honorary citizen of Pesaro, Italy. Mr. Flórez received the honor from Mayor Matteo Ricci, at a ceremony that took place at the City Council Hall. This is a tremendous gesture from the city of Pesaro, which has played an important role in his life and career. He rocketed onto the international scene at the Rossini Opera Festival in 1996 – hosted in Pesaro – when he made his spectacular debut as Corradino in Matilde di Shabran. Juan Diego Flórez performs at the Salzburg Festival in the role of Vilfredo d’Ivanhoe in Nicolai’s rarely performed gem of the repertoire, Il templario.
